Making Our Mark
Did you know that you could eat Old Chang
Kee ’s curry puff in London? You might also
be able to hear people singing covers of
JJ Lin’s songs in New York.
Homegrown brands and talents have gone beyond
the shores of Singapore, and built an international
following. Can you identify how these brands and
talents have made their mark?
Have you noticed how the three ingredients have shaped Chinese Singaporean culture from chapter to chapter?
The Chinese Singaporean values, festivals and traditional practices we cherish and enjoy today came from the Chinese heritage that early Chinese migrants brought to Singapore.
Through cultural interaction, the language and food of the Chinese adapted to reflect Singapore’s multicultural environment.
And with public policies that promoted multicultural harmony and creative innovation, we’ve produced uniquely Chinese Singaporean creations that made their mark on the world stage.
Through these three ingredients our culture has always been evolving. And where it goes next is up to us.
